Operation Unite Goldsboro along with community partners: Southern Bank of Goldsboro, Kramden Institute of Durham, and the Dillard Goldsboro Alumni and Friends, Inc, Triangle Chapter have worked together to present 50 laptops to students in Wayne County from 23 different schools. Mark Colebrook, founder of Operation Unite Goldsboro started Operation Chromebook when he realized that Wayne County Public Schools did not have enough devices to ensure that every student had a Chromebook. Students are having to share devices no matter how many students are in the household and this hinders student’s success. To date, with the help of local and out of state donors, Colebrook has been able to give away 30 chrome books.
When Dekevias Atkinson, President and Douglas Horne, President and Vice President of the Triangle Chapter of Dillard Goldsboro Alumni and Friends heard about this great cause they went into action immediately. Within one week they were in contact with Colebrook, partnered with Kramden Institute and Southern Bank and have purchased 50 Chromebooks.
President Atkinson said, “This organization has always been about serving and giving back to our community. At the end of the day, it should always be up to us to invest in our young people. This is our responsibility in good times and bad times, if we want them to have a bright future for them. These laptops will allow these students to have access to limitless information, to learn, to grow and to prepare them for success.”
