Goldsboro, NC — The Goldsboro Police Department will host its annual Shop with a Cop event on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025, beginning at 7:30 am, at local Walmart Supercenters and Target. This long-standing program strengthens relationships between youth and law enforcement while supporting families across Goldsboro and Wayne County who may need assistance during the holiday season.
Students, typically in elementary and middle school, are nominated and selected by public school social workers. Each child receives a predetermined amount of shopping money based on available funding. During the event, children are paired with a police officer or criminal justice professional who shops with them, helping them choose meaningful gifts. Participants and their parents are treated to breakfast before shopping begins. Throughout the morning, volunteers wrap gifts while families and officers continue engaging in positive conversation and connection.
“Shop with a Cop is one of our favorite traditions because it gives our officers the chance to connect with kids in a meaningful and personal way,” said Chief Michael West. “Beyond the gifts, it’s about building trust, showing support, and reminding these young people that their police department is here for them. These moments strengthen our community in ways that truly matter.”
Chief West also expressed appreciation for the event’s partners and corporate supporters throughout Goldsboro and Wayne County. “Our corporate sponsors and community partners play a tremendous role in making this event possible. Their generosity allows us to reach more children each year and ensures that families across Goldsboro and Wayne County feel supported during the holidays. We could not do this without them, and we are grateful for their continued commitment to this community.”
The Goldsboro Police Department is proud to be able to provide this annual holiday experience to 50 children this year. The department extends sincere appreciation to its criminal justice partners and corporate sponsors whose donations of time, funding, and resources make this event possible. Their support strengthens community bonds and brings joy to families throughout Goldsboro and Wayne County.
