There’s something powerful about a day set aside for generosity. A Day of Giving isn’t just a date on a calendar or a hashtag that trends for 24 hours. For nonprofits like ours, it’s a lifeline — a moment when the mission meets the hearts of the people who believe in it.
For those of us doing this work up close, a Day of Giving represents far more than donations. It’s hope. It’s connection. It’s the reminder that even in a world that feels heavy and divided, people still show up for one another.
At Kriquette’s Kidz, we see that every single time someone gives — whether it’s $5, a bicycle, a box of diapers, or simply a message that says, “How can I help?” A Day of Giving magnifies that spirit. It creates the momentum that helps us help others.
Why a Day of Giving Matters
Nonprofits live in the space between need and possibility. We see what families are up against, and we also see what happens when compassion meets action. But the truth is, we can’t do any of it alone.
A Day of Giving:
• Fuels the mission.
It keeps programs running, keeps shelves stocked, and makes sure we never have to turn away a child or a family hurting.
• Builds community.
This work is not about charity — it’s about partnership. When someone gives, they become part of the story… part of the solution.
• Creates awareness.
So many people don’t know the need right in their own backyard. A Day of Giving shines a light on the places where hope is needed most.
• Honors the WHY behind the work.
Every nonprofit has a heartbeat — a story, a purpose, a deep reason it exists. This day brings that into focus.
What It Means to the People Doing the Work
As someone who lives and breathes this mission, I can tell you: the Day of Giving does something to your heart. It reminds you why you keep going, even when the days are long, even when you’re tired, even when the needs feel bigger than your resources.
It tells you that the work is seen.
That the kids are seen.
That the families are seen.
That love in action still matters.
I’ve learned over the years that generosity isn’t about the size of the gift — it’s about the spirit behind it. Some of the most meaningful donations we’ve ever received weren’t large in dollars, but they were tremendous in heart.
A Day of Giving Says, “We Believe in You.”
To a small nonprofit, that belief is everything.
It says:
Keep going. What you’re doing matters.
We’re standing with you.
You are not alone in this.
And in a world where people are quick to criticize and slow to understand, that encouragement goes a long, long way.
Gratitude Beyond Words
When that day arrives each year, I always find myself stepping back, taking a deep breath, and remembering why I started this journey in the first place — to serve, to love, to bring a little light where the world sometimes feels dim.
A Day of Giving is a beautiful reminder that the light doesn’t come from one person. It comes from all of us, giving what we can, when we can, with the hope that it makes someone else’s load a little lighter.
And it does.
Every single time.
