October 23, 2026, 77, – Sherie Wallace Metz passed away peacefully on October 23, 2026, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, NC.
Sherie was born on August 11, 1949, in Hamlet, North Carolina, to Jesse “Speedy” Wilbert Wallace and Louise Scarborough Wallace. She held a special place in her heart for her hometown and often shared fond memories of her childhood there.
She graduated from Hamlet High School in 1967 and from Atlantic Christian College in Wilson, North Carolina, in 1972, where she was a member of Phi Mu sorority.
Sherie retired from Wayne County Public Schools, where she worked as a teacher’s assistant. She loved children, and that love was returned by the many students whose lives she touched throughout her years in the classroom. She formed lasting friendships with her colleagues at Eastern Wayne Elementary and Tommy’s Road Elementary, who meant so much to her.
Sherie cherished her family and the time she spent with those she loved, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, John; her children, Taylor Metz and his wife, Jamie, of Goldsboro, and Jessica Metz of Wilmington; and her grandchildren, Bailey and Easton.
Sherie always had a genuine smile for everyone she encountered and had a natural way of making people feel welcome. She loved spending time with family and friends, music, working in her yard, bird watching, and following her favorite sports teams: the Atlanta Braves, the Chicago Cubs, and Wake Forest basketball.
Sherie’s warmth, kindness, and love for her family and friends will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Sherie was preceded in death by her beloved son, Greg Metz.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Goldsboro, located at 125 South John Street, Goldsboro, NC 27530. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Sherie’s name to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The family is in the care of Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
