GOLDSBORO, N.C. — It’s almost time to fall back! Daylight Saving Time officially ends this Sunday, November 1, at 2 a.m., giving residents across Goldsboro, Wayne County, and the rest of North Carolina an extra hour of sleep.
At 2 a.m. Sunday, clocks will move back one hour to 1 a.m., marking the return to Eastern Standard Time.
While most smartphones, computers, and other electronic devices will automatically adjust, residents are reminded to manually change traditional clocks, watches, and appliances before heading to bed Saturday night.
The time change means sunrise and sunset will occur approximately one hour earlier by the clock, bringing brighter mornings but darker evenings.
A Good Time for Home Safety Checks
Local residents are also encouraged to use the twice-yearly time change as a reminder to check important household safety devices.
Fire safety officials recommend testing smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors to ensure they are working properly. Replace batteries when needed and check the manufacturer’s recommendations for replacing older devices.
It’s also a good opportunity to review family emergency plans, check emergency supply kits, and make sure outdoor lighting is working properly as daylight hours continue to shorten.
Be Prepared for Darker Evenings
With sunset arriving earlier, motorists should be especially cautious during evening commutes.
Drivers are encouraged to watch for pedestrians, cyclists, and children who may be walking or playing outdoors as daylight fades.
The shift in daylight can also temporarily affect sleep schedules, so experts recommend maintaining consistent bedtimes and wake-up routines to help the body adjust.
Daylight Saving Time will return on Sunday, March 14, 2027, when clocks will spring forward one hour.
