October 19 2026, 78, – Iris Easom Moody, 78, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 19, 2026, at UNC Wayne Healthcare in Goldsboro, surrounded by the love and memories of those whose lives she touched. Born in Mebane, North Carolina, on September 13, 1948, Iris was the daughter of the late Glenn Gulley Easom and Geneva Holyfield Easom.
To know Iris was to know a woman with a heart for loving, a spirit for giving, and a deep devotion to family. She believed that love was more than words; it was something demonstrated through kindness, sacrifice, and the willingness to show up for others. Family was the center of her world, and she worked hard throughout her life to make a difference in the lives of those she loved. Her caring nature extended beyond her immediate family, as she opened her heart and offered a helping hand to many others. Whether caring for a loved one or lending support to someone in need, Iris found purpose in making sure others knew they were loved.
Iris was a hardworking and dedicated woman who devoted her life to providing for her family and serving others. She began her working career at Ralston Purina Company, where she faithfully served for 19 years before retiring. During this time, she worked full time while pursuing her education, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Atlantic Christian College, now known as Barton College, where she graduated with honors. Following her graduation, Iris continued her career with the State of North Carolina, beginning at O’Berry Neuro-Medical Treatment Center, then serving at Cherry Hospital’s Purchasing Office, and later at Longleaf Neuro-Medical Treatment Center, where she ultimately retired from state service. Throughout her career, Iris demonstrated remarkable determination, perseverance, and a strong work ethic, reflecting the dedication and commitment that were hallmarks of her life.
Beyond her work and her many acts of kindness, Iris knew how to enjoy life. She loved reading, finding pleasure in the pages of a good book, and she especially enjoyed dancing. The Cha-Cha was a favorite, and it was a fitting reflection of her lively spirit and her ability to find joy in life’s simple pleasures. She understood that life was not only about the work we do, but also about the moments we share, the laughter we create, and the memories we leave behind.
Above all, Iris leaves behind a legacy of love. Her greatest accomplishments cannot be measured by the years she worked or the responsibilities she carried, but by the countless ways she cared for others. She gave of herself generously, loved her family deeply, and made a difference in ways that will continue to be felt for generations. Though her earthly journey has ended, the love she poured into the lives of others will remain a lasting part of her story.
In addition to her parents, Iris was preceded in death by her beloved son, Anthony Glenn Easom Bass; her brother, Sammy Easom; and her sister, Glenda Mast.
Left to cherish her memory and carry forward her legacy of love is her devoted husband of 23 years, Danny Moody; her children, Tracey Bass Sinclair and husband, Tim; Daniel Ruben Bass and wife, Dana; Boone Moody and wife, Jordan; and Michelle Wolff and husband, Tom. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Toni Sinclair Lamb and husband, Cameron; Joshua Alan Sinclair; Megan Sinclair Hill and husband, Tim; Kayla Allen; Brooke Allen; Aurilyn Allen; Trevor Hernandez; Ian Wolff; and Della Wolff. Her love will continue to live on through her great-grandchildren, Devyn Iris Lamb, Bryson Hill, Emersyn Hill, and Everly Hill. She is also survived by her sister, Elga Owens, along with many extended family members and dear friends who were blessed to know and love her.
The family will receive friends on Monday, October 26, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Kenly Funeral Service in Kenly. A service to celebrate Iris’s life will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel, with her nephew, Kevin Easom, officiating. A private interment will be held at a later date at Evergreen Memorial Park in Wilson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Iris’s memory to the American Lung Association or the Dementia Alliance.
Iris’s life reminds us that the most beautiful legacy we can leave is the love we give away. She spent her years caring for others, putting family first, and making a difference wherever she could. While those who loved her will miss her presence, they can find comfort in knowing that the kindness she shared, the memories she created, and the love she gave so freely will never be lost. Her story lives on in every life she touched and in every heart that will forever hold a piece of her.
