Mrs. Davis was born in Wilson County on November 20, 1938, to the late Thomas P. Gay and Rachel Tedder Gay. She was a member of The Bridge Church in Princeton.
Virgie was known for her joy, her zest for life, and the deep love she held for her family. She had a special way of bringing happiness to those around her, and her warm spirit and love for life left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She especially loved Florida, palm trees, and beach music. The sunshine and warm weather always seemed to brighten her mood, reflecting her own sunny disposition and appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. Whether surrounded by her loved ones or enjoying the things that brought her happiness, Virgie embraced life with a joyful heart.
Virgie will be lovingly remembered by her family and all those who were blessed to know her. Her love, laughter, and vibrant spirit will continue to live on through the memories she created and the lives she touched. Her memory will forever be treasured in the hearts of those she leaves behind, and her legacy of love and joy will remain with them always.
She leaves to cherish her memory her two sons, Randy Garner and Mark Davis; two brothers, William Ray Preston and wife, Vickie, and Thomas “Tom” Preston and wife, Connie; three sisters, Carolyn Love, Linda Weaver, and Pat Rigsbee; eight grandchildren, Crystal Thompson, Stephanie Atkins (Kevin), Chuck Holland (Mandie), Scott Garner (Cristy), Stephanie Boggs (Jimmy), Mary-Catherine Talton (Bryan), Anna Bass (Andrew), and Matt Davis (Ashleigh); her beloved great-grandchildren, Beth Smith (Will), Christian Boykin, Brittanie Kyle (Trevor), Kortanie Atkins, Chase, Drake, Haven, and Paylen Holland, Dylan Harrelson, Jada and Savanna Garner, Alex Garner, Ella-Rose Talton, Emerson, Davis, and Langley Bass, Maggie Davis, and a soon-to-arrive sister, Elizabeth; and twelve great-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Virgie’s beloved nieces, Kim Dawson (Larry), Robin Jones (Everett), and Majena Howell (Brian), who lovingly cared for her and cherished her as their own mother. Their selfless love, devotion, and kindness were a tremendous blessing to Virgie and to the entire family. The family is forever grateful for the time, care, and compassion they gave her, and for the special bond they shared. Virgie also dearly loved their children, her great-nieces and great-nephews, and treasured the precious moments spent with each of them. The love they surrounded her with will always hold a special place in the hearts of her family.
Virgie was blessed with a very special friend in Sandra Mooring, whose friendship brought her so much joy and companionship. The two shared many happy moments together, whether shopping, enjoying dinner, stopping for ice cream, sitting on the back porch, or simply taking a leisurely ride through the countryside. It was often the simple pleasures and time spent together that made their friendship so meaningful. More than a friend, Sandra was a beloved companion and a sister in Christ. Their bond was a beautiful reflection of love, faith, and the blessing of true friendship. Sandra’s faithful companionship and the many cherished memories they made together will always be remembered with love and gratitude.
In addition to her parents, Virgie was preceded in death by her stepfather, Bennie Brown; her beloved husband, Harold G. Davis; her two sons, Gary Anderson and Phillip Davis; and her sister, Peggy Sasser.
Though her earthly journey has come to an end, the love she shared, the joy she brought to others, and the beautiful memories she leaves behind will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends. Her legacy of love will live on through the generations she leaves behind until they are reunited again.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, NC, in grateful appreciation for the compassionate care, comfort, and kindness shown to Virgie and her family during her final days.
