GOLDSBORO, N.C. — The 2026 Wayne Regional Agricultural Fair came to an unexpected early close on Saturday, October 10, as unfavorable weather conditions forced organizers to shut down activities on the final day. However, the weather didn’t stop one of the fair’s most anticipated attractions — the Demolition Derby — from delivering an exciting finale before a large crowd of enthusiastic spectators.
Despite the disappointing weather-related closure, fans packed the stands to witness drivers battle it out in the Demolition Derby, a longtime crowd favorite known for its roaring engines, crashing metal, and fierce competition.
Local drivers took center stage, competing in three divisions and putting on an action-packed show for spectators.
2026 Demolition Derby Winners:
-
4 Cylinder: Jessie Thompson — Goldsboro
-
4 Cylinder Modified: Jason Hargrove — Grantham
-
6 Cylinder: D.J. Herring — Goldsboro
The competition highlighted the talent and determination of local drivers, with competitors from Goldsboro and Grantham claiming top honors in their respective divisions.
Although Mother Nature shortened the fair’s final day, the Demolition Derby provided a memorable conclusion to this year’s festivities.
Throughout its run, the Wayne Regional Agricultural Fair once again brought the community together to celebrate agriculture, local talent, livestock competitions, entertainment, delicious fair food, and family traditions.
For generations, the fair has been a cherished fall tradition in Wayne County, bringing families, friends, and visitors together for what organizers proudly call “The Best Ten Days of Fall.”
While the 2026 fair may not have ended exactly as planned, the excitement of the Demolition Derby and the memories created throughout the event will carry on until the fair returns next year.
