September 23, 2026, 74, Indian Springs – William Cecil Brown, Jr., 74, resident of the Indian Springs area near Mount Olive, passed away Wednesday morning, September 23, 2026, at Rex Hospital in Raleigh.
Mr. Brown had served in the United States Air Force for an eight year enlistment, and afterwards, he served in the local N. C. National Guard. He had been employed by several business in the private sector as a security officer. He was a native of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and was the son of the late William Cecil Brown and Lyda Mae Smith Brown, and he was their only child.
Known as “Pops” to both family and friend, he is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jo Barwick Brown, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Adam and Erin K. Brown of Mount Olive; a daughter and son-in-law, Beth B. and Jo-Jo Davis of Grantham; six grandchildren whom he simply adored, Abigeal Brown, Jameson Davis, Maggie Brown, Zachary Davis, Perry Brown, and Avett Mae Brown; and a special aunt, Dorothy Brown, widow of his late uncle Billy Brown, of Brent, Alabama, along with her family. Also surviving are his in-laws, the Maggie “Bumps” and Aaron Barwick family.
Funeral services for Mr. Brown will be Monday, September 28, at 6:30 pm at Tyndall Funeral Home, followed by visitation. Famlly and friends are also welcome to call at the Brown residence. Committal rites followed by burial will be Tuesday, September 29, at 10:30 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.
