WILSON, N.C. — The University of Mount Olive women’s volleyball team turned in a dominant performance Tuesday night, sweeping Barton College in straight sets in Conference Carolinas action at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Trojans earned the 3-0 victory with set scores of 25-20, 25-15 and 25-14, improving to 6-6 overall and 2-2 in Conference Carolinas play. Barton dropped to 2-9 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
Mount Olive controlled the match offensively, hitting .333 as a team while recording 38 kills and 10 service aces.
The Trojans were particularly impressive in the third set, producing 13 kills without an attack error on 20 attempts for a .650 hitting percentage.
Kaitlyn Koel led Mount Olive with 10 kills while contributing five total blocks, five digs and three service aces. Bayli Bryan finished with eight kills and a .545 hitting percentage, while Kaitlyn Landis also recorded eight kills.
Olivia Melvin added seven kills, and Rachel Clark contributed four kills on seven attacks without an error.
Setter Lyndsay Reid directed the Mount Olive offense with 29 assists while adding seven digs and two aces. Reid also reached a major career milestone during the match, surpassing 2,000 career assists.
Defensively, the Trojans held Barton to a .128 hitting percentage while totaling 41 digs and seven blocks.
Mount Olive returns home Saturday to continue Conference Carolinas play against Shorter. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Kornegay Arena.
