FREMONT, N.C. — The Fremont Police Department is investigating a Sunday evening shooting that left one person injured and resulted in charges against two individuals, including one suspect who remained wanted at the time of the department’s release.
Police said officers responded at approximately 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, to a reported shooting at a residence at 408 S. Sycamore Street in Fremont.
The Pikeville Police Department and Wayne County Sheriff’s Office also responded and assisted Fremont officers with the investigation.
According to police, Donja Jmaal Ward was shot once in the chest area during the incident and was transported for medical treatment. Police did not provide an update on Ward’s condition.
Investigators identified Ramelle Milek Lofton of Dudley as the suspect in the shooting. Police said warrants have been obtained charging Lofton with felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, felony discharge of a firearm within an enclosure to incite fear, felony possession of a firearm by a felon and misdemeanor injury to real property.
Lofton had not been taken into custody at the time of the police department’s release.
Police listed Lofton’s last known address as 512 Rollingwood Drive in Dudley. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to contact law enforcement.
During the investigation, police arrested Kicheymia Tiquetiosha Cannon of Fremont and charged her with accessory after the fact to a felony. Cannon was issued a $50,000 secured bond and was scheduled for a first court appearance Monday, Sept. 14. 
Investigators said the shooting occurred inside a residence where three minor children live. According to police, the children were in close proximity to the area where the firearm was discharged. Authorities said no identifying information about the children will be released.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation, and police said additional information may be released as it becomes available.
