September 4, 2026, 86, – Kermit Morris Goodson, 86, passed away unexpectedly at his home Friday evening, Sept. 4. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife; Violet Sasser Goodson; and their daughter, Crystal Goodson Brock of Mount Olive; a sister Glenda Blackman and her husband Lounes of Goldsboro; brothers George Goodson of Dunn, and Tim Goodson of Snow Hill; five grandchildren in which he loved dearly, Kaitlyn Bell and her husband Josh, Konner Brock and his wife Rebecca, Kaleb Brock and his wife Harley, Karoline Brown and her husband Dwayne, and Kallie Brock and her fiancée’ Ryan Roberts; and eight great-grandchildren, Easton and Carson Bell, Janey Kate and Josie Violet Brock, Carter, Caden, and Conner Brown, and Sadie Roberts; and several nieces and nephews; and his special k-9 companion, Maxie.
Kermit was preceded in death by his parents; James M. and Rosa Eggers Goodson.
Kermit was a graduate of Mount Olive High School. For the largest part of his working career, he was employed with Sonoco as a Warehouse Manager. To say he loved fishing was an understatement. Whether it was alone, or with his grandchildren showing them all the special fishing holes and just the right bait to use, Kermit was always ready. He also loved woodworking and tinkering on motors to get them running like a top. He also found himself always thinking of his family when he was placing bids on on-line auctions to find them the perfect keepsake, or just something he thought they would enjoy. Kermit will be remembered as always thinking of others, and if there was a will, there was a way.
A Memorial service for Kermit will be held on Wednesday, September 9, at 3 o’clock in the afternoon in the chapel of Tyndall Funeral Home. Pastor Jonathan Altman and Rev. Timothy Lipp will officiate the service. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:30pm – until service time; and at other times at his residence located on Old Smith Chapel Road, Mount Olive.
