September 1, 2026, 76, – Brenda Stafford Newsome passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at Wayne UNC Health Care, surrounded by her loving family, just one day shy of celebrating her 77th birthday.
The family will receive friends Friday, September 4, 2026 from 12:30 p.m. until 1:15 p.m. with the service to celebrate her life following at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park in Dudley.
Mrs. Newsome was born in Wayne County on September 2, 1949, to the late Alton Stafford and Myrtie McLamb Stafford. She was a member of Free Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, where her church family was an important part of her life.
Brenda retired from Sam’s Club in Goldsboro after many years of employment. Away from work, she found her greatest happiness in the simple things that made life meaningful being surrounded by family, enjoying a good book and making memories with those she loved.
One of Brenda’s favorite pastimes was riding motorcycles with her beloved husband, Randy. Together, they enjoyed the freedom of the open road and the many adventures they shared along the way. Those rides became treasured memories of a life spent side by side. Following Randy’s passing, those special times remained close to Brenda’s heart.
Above all else, Brenda loved her family. She treasured time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and took great joy in watching her family grow through the generations. She was especially excited about the two great-grandchildren who are on the way. Her family was a source of tremendous pride and happiness throughout her life.
An avid reader, Brenda also appreciated the quiet companionship of a good book. Whether enjoying time with family, turning the pages of a favorite story or remembering an adventure on the motorcycle with Randy, she embraced the things that brought comfort and happiness to her life.
In addition to her parents, Brenda was preceded in death by her husband, Randy Newsome; her son, Ken Scott; and her brothers, Billy Stafford and Jimmy Stafford.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Melissa “Missy” Lee and husband, Richard of Pinkney; her sister, Peggy Bridgers and husband, Ray of Rosewood; six grandchildren, Hannah Shaeffer and husband, Devan, Jacob Bargoil, Tucker Lee, Ivey Lee, Tyler Lee and Abby Lee; her great-grandchildren, Brayden, Deliylah, Kayana, Emersyn and Kinsley, with two more great-grandchildren eagerly awaited; and other relatives and friends who were blessed to share in her life.
Brenda will be remembered for her love for family, her devotion to those closest to her and the memories she created throughout a life well lived. Though her journey here has ended, the love she gave and the memories she leaves behind will continue to travel with her family wherever life’s road may lead.
