August 21, 2026, 81, Goldsboro – Carolyn Marie Fields, 81, went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 21, 2026, at Eagles Point in Goldsboro, North Carolina.
Mrs. Fields was born in Wayne County on May 17, 1945, to the late Troy Jernigan and Laura Smith Jernigan Sills.
Carolyn was a faithful member of Free Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. She taught children’s Sunday School there for 20 years, helped with the Ladies Auxiliary, and with Seniors Citizens Day.
She worked at Excell Linde Products Manufacturing Company in Goldsboro for 25 years. After she retired from Excell Linde, she worked at Eastern Wayne Elementary School in the cafeteria until she began keeping her grandchild, Analeigh Daw, in 2010.
In her years after retirement, Carolyn enjoyed church, working in her yard, planting flowers, decorating her home, working in the garden, and, most importantly, spending time with her family.
Carolyn was such a giving person and loved to help others. If anyone needed anything, she was the first to offer help. She gave her time, love, and energy without ever asking for anything back. Her home was always open, and her table always had room for one more. She lived to serve others, finding her greatest joy in seeing the people around her smile and succeed. She was also her family’s greatest cheerleader and loved them dearly.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, David James Fields, who passed away in 2023, and her brother, Troy Edwin Jernigan (Anne).
She is survived by her daughter, April Fields Daw and husband Troy of Goldsboro; and two grandchildren, Camden and Analeigh Daw. She also leaves behind her cherished sister, Ruby Corlew (Glen) of Goldsboro, and brother, Allen Sills (Jean) of Goldsboro, and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 1:00–2:00 PM on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at 3:00 PM at Hillcrest Cemetery in Newton Grove.
