August 19, 2026, 72, – William David Grantham (Billy) passed away peacefully at Goldsboro Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. He was the son of Joe and Nancy Grantham, the much-loved youngest brother of the family. He attended Grantham School and Southern Wayne High School. After completing a janitorial course at Caswell Center in Kinston, he worked in food services at Wayne Memorial Hospital for over 30 years until his retirement in 2007.
Billy loved his church and community and made many friends over the years. He had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening and working in his greenhouse after his retirement.
Billy is survived by his sisters, Gail Ward, Dorothy Keen and husband Don, and Betty Franklin; his brother, Phil Grantham and wife Dianne. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Joe M. Grantham III.
Billy’s family would like to express our appreciation for the kindness and care he received from the staff of the 300 hall of Goldsboro Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. We would also like to thank Tricia Keyser and Chaplain Shirley and other staff of Gentiva Hospice for their care and concern during his final days.
There will be a visitation on Saturday, August 22, 2026 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. in the fellowship hall of Falling Creek Community Church in Grantham at 299 Falling Creek Church Road, Goldsboro, NC 27530. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Billy to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
