Connecting Job Seekers with More Than 30 State Agencies and Universities
DURHAM, N.C. — North Carolinians looking to launch or advance a career in public service will have the opportunity to connect with dozens of employers during the fourth annual State of North Carolina Career Expo, scheduled for Monday, Aug. 31, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sheraton Imperial RTP in Durham.
The free event will bring together representatives from 33 state agencies and public universities, offering job seekers the chance to explore career opportunities, meet recruiters, ask questions about open positions and learn more about careers in state government. The event is open to individuals of all education and experience levels, and advance registration is encouraged.
Governor Josh Stein said the expo is designed to connect talented North Carolinians with meaningful careers serving communities across the state.
“North Carolina has the best workforce in the nation, and the Career Expo will help connect them to opportunities to serve the people of our state,” Stein said. “Our agencies and universities are eager to recruit more public-spirited people ready to make a difference on Team North Carolina.”
Attendees will be able to visit agency booths, speak one-on-one with hiring representatives and participate in information sessions hosted throughout the day. Some agencies will also conduct pre-scheduled onsite interviews, while recruiters will offer guidance on navigating the state’s hiring process.
State Human Resources Director Staci Meyer said the annual event continues to expand, creating valuable connections between employers and prospective employees.
“Year after year, this Career Expo grows in number of jobseekers and hiring agencies, resulting in successful job matches,” Meyer said. “We’re always looking for talented people who want to make a difference. If you’re interested in serving our state, please join us at the 2026 Career Expo and explore the opportunities that North Carolina has to offer.”
In addition to hiring agencies and universities, attendees will have access to a variety of career resources, including:

- NCWorks, including a mobile unit to help job seekers create profiles and apply for positions
- State Employees Credit Union
- Dress for Success Triangle NC
- Office of State Human Resources Learning and Development
- NCWorks Veterans Services
- Ed2NC
- DHHS Division of Employment and Independence for People with Disabilities
- Temporary Solutions, which will offer information sessions, temporary job opportunities and guidance on applying for state positions.
The State of North Carolina employs more than 72,000 people across all 100 counties, offering careers in fields ranging from public safety and healthcare to education, transportation, technology and environmental services.
