GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A Goldsboro man was arrested on felony weapons and drug charges after deputies conducted a traffic stop during a saturation patrol in the U.S. Highway 70 and West Grantham Street area.
According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, members of the Violence Prevention & Response Team (ViPR), DWI Task Force, and Patrol Division conducted the enforcement operation on July 30 as part of ongoing crime prevention and traffic safety efforts.
During the operation, ViPR deputies stopped a vehicle for a North Carolina Chapter 20 traffic violation. While investigating the stop, deputies developed probable cause to search the vehicle.
Authorities said passenger Aquayvion Kwanaz Lewis, 24, of Astor Court in Goldsboro, was found to be in possession of a concealed handgun and narcotics.
A records check revealed Lewis had previous convictions for carrying a concealed weapon, elevating the current concealed weapon charge to a felony.
Lewis was arrested and charged with:
- Carrying a Concealed Gun (Felony)
- Simple Possession of a Schedule VI Controlled Substance (Misdemeanor)
Following his arrest, Lewis was transported to the Wayne County Magistrate’s Office, where he received a $10,500 secured bond.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said the saturation patrol was part of its continued efforts to reduce crime, improve roadway safety, and proactively enforce traffic and criminal laws throughout the county.
