July 17, 2026, 94, Goldsboro – Mrs. Lucille Hargrove Turner Koszulinski, at the age of 94, passed away late Friday afternoon, July 17, 2026, at the home of her daughter with whom she had been sharing a home in the Rosewood community, Goldsboro.
Mrs. Koszulinski had long been a resident of the Mount Olive and Calypso areas. As a member of the Calypso Baptist Church, she had been a Sunday school teacher, a choir member, had assisted with Vacation Bible School, among other duties and details as needed. Being a wonderful cook, she utilized her cooking skills in baking homemade bread for the church’s communion services, and on Sunday mornings, she used her magic in making the best grits around, and acquired the name of the church’s grit cooker.
A licensed practical nurse, she had been on staff at Wayne Memorial Hospital before her employment with the Veterans Administration Hospital in Fayetteville, from which she had an early retirement due to disability.
Mrs. Koszulinksi leaves behind her daughter, Connie Turner Woerner, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Daryle and Karen Turner, of Goldsboro, and Cary and Janet Turner, of Mount Olive; a brother and sister-in-law, Elton and Brenda Hargrove, of Zebulon; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Doris Flowers, of New Bern, and Geraldine and Danny Shipp, of Clinton. She had 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.–What a legacy of having been blessed with a life of longevity during which she showed love, compassion, and goodness to those around her. Her strength and resilience were qualities that made others take notice of just how determined, loving but yet stern, she was.
She was preceded in death by a young daughter, Gloria Jean Turner; two sons and a daughter-in-law, William Landis Turner, and Limon Allen “Boogie” and Carolyn Turner; two grandsons, Stephen Wiggins and Jacob Wiggins; a son-in-law, Norman “Butch” Woerner; her parents, Rovie M. and Beatrice Horne Hargrove; a sister, Thelma Gray; and four brothers, Edward Hargrove, Carl Hargrove, Eugene Hargrove, and J. T. Hargrove.
Funeral services for Mrs. Lucille Hargrove Koszulinski will be held Wednesday, July 22, at 6:00 pm from Tyndall Funeral Home with visitation to follow. Burial will be Thursday, July 23, at 10:00 a.m. in Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive. Those participating in the service include her church pastors, the Rev. Paul Langston and the Rev. Mitchell Henderson, and her son, Cary, who will share memories from the family. At other times, family and friends are being received at the home of her daughter, Connie, in the Rosewood community, Goldsboro. NC
