WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Don Davis (NC-01) paid tribute on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives to Major Alexander “SMO” Davis, a Goldsboro native who was among eight Airmen killed in a B-52 Stratofortress crash at Edwards Air Force Base on June 15, 2026.
During his remarks, Congressman Davis honored Major Davis for a life defined by service, leadership and a commitment to excellence.
“Madam Speaker, I rise with a heavy heart to honor Air Force Major Alexander Davis of Goldsboro,” Congressman Davis said. “On June 15, our nation mourned when a tragic B-52 mishap at Edwards Air Force Base claimed the lives of eight brave Airmen. Alex was among them, and his life was defined by selfless service.”

Aycock High School before receiving an Air Force ROTC scholarship to North Carolina State University. He earned a degree in aerospace engineering and was commissioned into the United States Air Force.

His military service earned him the Air Medal, Aerial Achievement Medal and Air Force Commendation Medal.
Friends, family members and fellow Airmen remembered Major Davis as a dependable leader who embodied the Air Force core values of Integrity First, Service Before Self and Excellence in All We Do.
Congressman Davis also reflected on Major Davis’ ambitions and his desire to continue reaching new heights.
“He dreamed of one day becoming an astronaut, always reaching for the skies,” Congressman Davis said. “Eastern North Carolina will always be proud to call him one of our own.”
In a statement, Congressman Davis described Major Davis as a beloved Airman, exceptional leader and American hero.
“My heart and prayers are with his parents, Doug and Karen, and the entire Davis family,” Congressman Davis said. “Alex lived a life of selfless service and made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. May we always honor his memory, cherish his legacy, and strive to live worthy of the freedoms he helped defend.”
Concluding his remarks on the House floor, Congressman Davis offered condolences to Major Davis’ family and pledged that his service and sacrifice would not be forgotten.
