July 6, 2026, 80, Pikeville – Bruce went to his heavenly home on July 6, 2026. He was deeply loved by his wife and family. Family was very important to him, he loved his children, nieces, and nephews dearly. He loved his Church and church family. He was a kind, giving, compassionate, loving man, who will be remembered forever.
He is survived by his wife, Lana Riggs Smithwick, his daughter Lora Kristi Smithwick, his sons Aaron Smithwick, and his wife Eva and Joseph Scott Smithwick, his sisters Audrey Tyson & Hilda Harris, his brother Danny Smithwick and wife, Kathy. The family would also like to extend a thank you to his caregiver, Shelli Mills.
Bruce’s sister, Eloise Harris predeceased him.
He loved spending time with his family eating and playing Rummikub.
Bruce was a veteran with the US Army.
Bruce and his wife, owned a bread route with Bimbo Bread which he retired from. He worked with Merita Bread over twenty years. In his younger years, he owned a service station in his home town of Engelhard, NC. He also owned a crab business.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, July 11, 2026 at 11 a.m. at Community Church 421, 351 Antioch Road in Goldsboro. The family will greet friends following the service.
