WAYNE COUNTY, NC – A Pikeville woman is celebrating after a $30 North Carolina Education Lottery scratch-off ticket turned into a $100,000 top prize.
Cassandra Joyner said she and her partner couldn’t contain their excitement after revealing the winning ticket.
“We were doing our happy dance and screaming,” Joyner recalled. “Then we cried.”
Joyner purchased the lucky $100,000 Cash Payday scratch-off ticket at 919 Wireless And Vape on Goldsboro Street in Pikeville.
“I still don’t quite believe it,” Joyner said.
Joyner traveled to North Carolina Education Lottery headquarters in Raleigh on Tuesday to claim her prize. After the required state and federal tax withholdings, she took home $72,018.
“Trust me this was needed,” she said.
Joyner plans to use her winnings to pay bills.
The $100,000 Cash Payday scratch-off game debuted in March and launched with 80 top prizes of $100,000. As of this week, 59 top prizes remain available to be claimed.
