July 3, 2026, 83, Kernersville – Carlton B. Davis, born in Eureka, NC to the late Walter B. Davis and Selma Sullivan Davis, passed away peacefully, July 3rd, 2026 at the NC State Veterans Home in Kernersville, NC at the age of 83. Carlton grew up in Fremont, NC and graduated from Fremont High School. After proudly serving in the United States Air Force from 1962 – 1966, Carlton graduated from East Carolina University in 1970. After several varied careers, he chose long distance trucking as his preferred career. His regular routes included Chicago and the west coast. He loved dogs, especially his Yorkie, Toby, who accompanied him on his routes.
Carlton’s greatest pride and joy were his two daughters and four grandchildren. He also had a love of gardening, wood working, Harley Davidsons, cooking southern country foods, North Carolina, and his country. Even in the last few years, Carlton had a continued interest in learning, reading, history, and word games.
He is survived by his daughters, Shannon Baker and her husband Kent Baker, Susan Kline and her husband, Bob Kline, granddaughters Jordan Nuckolls, Sydney Nuckolls, and Coryn Kline; and grandson, Zach Kline. Special friends to Carlton were his life-long friend, Dr. Jesse Blackman of Fremont, NC and Chaplin Brittany Buchanan, of the Veterans Home in Kernersville.
Living at the VA Home the past 2 years, Carlton made special friendships with the dedicated nurses and staff. They became an extension of his family. They enriched his life in many ways. He enjoyed making crafts, playing games, and visiting with the other residents. He met Pastor Paul Doby of Valley View Baptist Church in Kernersville who would visit regularly, as well as lead church services, and Bible studies. It was during this time, Carlton accepted Jesus Christ as his savior and became an active participant in studying the Bible.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, July 9, 2026 at 11 a.m. at Eureka Cemetery in Eureka.
