July 4, 2026, 79, Mount Olive – Connie Jo Jackson Jones, 79, lifelong resident of the Scott’s Store area near Mount Olive, passed away quietly in her sleep on the morning of Saturday, July 4, 2026. She had been in poor health for quite a while.
Connie was employed as a registered nurse, first on the medical/surgical suite at Duplin General Hospital, and lastly in the emergency department, and now known as ECU Duplin Hospital. She gave 32 years of dedicated, loyal, and compassionate service. Prior to her nursing career, she worked at Southern Bank and Trust Company, primarily in the Calypso branch; had been employed as a school bus driver (during the while she attended nursing school); had done her share of farm work in earlier years; had operated a store along with her brother, Ponche; and had worked at Britt’s Seafood.
Alum Springs Missionary Baptist Church had long been a vital part of Connie’s life and wellbeing. She had been the church’s choir director for many years, had taught Sunday school, and has assisted on various committees and projects in her tenure of attendance. Connie had also taken an active role in community events and fundraisers, selling tickets, or gathering cakes, pies, and so forth. In years passed, she had assisted with the ladies auxiliary at Pleasant Grove Fire Department.
Connie attended B. F. Grady School and graduated from East Duplin High School in 1964.
She leaves behind a loving family which includes her son, Kenneth Ray “Kenny” Jones II, also known as “Little Cuz,” and her daughter, Kenita Jones Judge, both of the home; a granddaughter, Haley Rae Jones, of Raleigh; her sisters and brother, Janice J. McConiga and husband, Pat, of Snow Hill, Yvonne “Avon” J. Nelson and husband, Keith, of Kinston, Jerry Charles “Ponche” Jackson and wife, Crystal, of Beaufort, and Katie “Kaye” J. Parker of Seven Springs; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Jones Futrell, of Deep Run; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In death, she now rejoins her late husband, Kenneth R. “Cuz” Jones; her parents, Robert Jackson and Dorothy Herring Jackson; and a brother, Robert “Scobie” Jackson, Jr. Because of the untimely deaths of her parents at young ages, a special acknowledgement is given to her maternal grandparents, Theodore and Katie Belle Herring, for their efforts in stepping up to care for Connie and her siblings during their formative years.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 7, at 7:00 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home. Officiating will be the Rev. Brant Jackson and the Rev. Ashley Summerlin. Visitation will follow the service at the funeral home, and at other times, friends and relatives are welcome to call at the residence. Committal rites with burial will be Wednesday, July 8, at 11 a.m. in the Herring Family Cemetery (behind 412 Alum Springs Road, Mount Olive, NC).
Flowers are welcome, or memorial gifts may be made to one of the following: Alum Springs Church, or Pleasant Grove Fire and EMS Dept., both in care of Wayland Southerland, 645 Bennett’s Bridge Road, Mount Olive, NC 28365; or to Cure for the Colors, in care of Southeastern Cancer Center, 203 Cox Blvd., Goldsboro, NC 27534.
