July 4, 2026, 75, Goldsboro – Jerry Wayne Hood, 75, peacefully entered his Heavenly home on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield.
Born in Wayne County on June 9, 1951, Jerry was the son of the late Morris Lemuel Hood, Sr. and Allene Heath Hood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Morris Lemuel Hood, Jr. and his sister, Judy Hood Cuddington.
Jerry faithfully dedicated many years of his career as an accountant with A.P. Parts. Retirement was never a time of slowing down for him, however, as he found great joy in serving others through his work at InJoy Thrift Store in Goldsboro, where he built many treasured friendships and continued to make a difference in the lives of those around him.
A man of unwavering faith, Jerry was a devoted member of Falling Creek Baptist Church, where he faithfully served as a deacon. His quiet servant’s heart, steadfast love for the Lord, and willingness to help others were evident in every aspect of his life.
Although he enjoyed his work, Jerry’s heart was always at home. Whether tending to the family farm, caring for the land he loved, or simply enjoying the peacefulness of country life, he found his greatest contentment there. He also enjoyed spending time on the golf course, cheering on his favorite college basketball teams, and making cherished memories while fishing with his family. Above all, Jerry treasured the time he spent with those he loved most.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Falling Creek Baptist Church. A service to celebrate Jerry’s life will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary with Pastor Robert Ellis and Pastor Joe Thornton officiating. Interment will conclude the service in the church cemetery.
Jerry leaves behind to cherish his memory his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and April Hood of Coats; his beloved grandchildren, Matthew Hood and Abby Hood; his brother, Ronald Hood and wife, Donna; along with several nieces, nephews, and their families, all of whom he loved dearly.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jerry’s memory to Falling Creek Baptist Church, 498 Falling Creek Church Road, Goldsboro, NC 27530.
Though his earthly work is complete, Jerry’s legacy of faith, humility, hard work, and love for his family will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
