July 1, 2026, 79, Goldsboro – Orville Jay Hine, Jr., 79, passed away at his home on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Middlesex County, New Jersey on December 31, 1946, he was son to the late Orville Jay Hine, Sr. and Jeanette Douma Hine.
Jay was a devoted husband, loving family man, and faithful servant of God whose greatest joy was spending time with those he loved. He shared a remarkable spirit of adventure with his beloved wife, and together they were avid travelers, embracing every opportunity to explore new places, experience different cultures, and create lasting memories. Whether their journeys took them across the country or around the world, Jay treasured the experiences they shared and the friendships they made along the way. Jay loved to reminisce about some of his teenage years growing up and time spent in the Canal Zone in Panama. To him, traveling was more than simply seeing new destinations—it was an opportunity to appreciate God’s creation, learn from others, and enjoy life’s many blessings alongside the love of his life.
Ordained as a minister, Jay dedicated his life to serving others through his unwavering faith and compassion. Following in the footsteps of his father and uncles, he answered God’s call to ministry and became deeply involved in Christian service. As a devoted member of the Reformed Church of America, he faithfully served his congregation and countless individuals with wisdom, kindness, and a servant’s heart. Jay served as minister of the following churches: Mount Pleasant Reformed Church of Greenport in Greenport, NY, Fonda Reformed Church in Fonda, NY and Christ Community Church in Utica, NY.
As the co-founder and co-owner of Crossroads Counseling Associates, Jay compassionately counseled individuals from all walks of life, offering hope, encouragement, and guidance through life’s challenges. His commitment to caring for others also extended to his work as a social worker with Mountain Valley Hospice, where he faithfully served in numerous roles, providing comfort, dignity, and support to patients and their families during some of life’s most difficult moments.
He will be remembered for his steadfast faith, compassionate heart, adventurous spirit, and unwavering dedication to his family, his ministry, and everyone whose lives he was privileged to touch. His legacy of love, service, and grace will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Jay is survived by his loving wife, Anne Paganelli Hine; his son, Matthew Hine and wife, Janine Sullivan; his grandchildren, Egan Hine and Maisie Sullivan; his sisters, Cheryl Hine and Janet Widell; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Adam Hine; his grandson, Addison Hine; and his brother, Franklin Hine.
A service to honor Jay’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 27, 2026 at the Fonda Reformed Church in Fonda, New York.
The family is in the care of Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
