June 20, 2026, 56, Goldsboro – Cleatus Darrell Howell, Jr., 56, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2026. Born in Wayne County on August 19, 1969, he was son to Cleatus Howell, Sr. and Atha Forehand Howell.
Darrell had a deep love for the outdoors and found great joy in spending time in nature. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who cherished the peace and adventure that came with being outside. He also enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and embraced the freedom of the open road.
Whether tending to his garden, casting a line in the water, or sharing stories with family and friends, Darrell lived life with enthusiasm and appreciation for the simple pleasures that brought him happiness. He especially treasured the companionship of his beloved dogs, Roxie and Sadie, who were a constant source of joy and faithful friends throughout the years.
Darrell is survived by his loving wife, Lauren Penuel Howell; his children, Austin Howell and special friend, Madison, and Ashley Howell; his parents; his mother-in-law, Marcella Sandlin and husband, Jerry; his brother-in-law, Mike Penuel and family; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Cleatus and Hazel Howell; his maternal grandparents, Tommy and Maggie Forehand; and several uncles and aunts.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home. A service to honor his life will be held in the chapel at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Mark Whitfield officiating. Interment will conclude at the Pee Dee Howell Family Cemetery.
