June 20, 2026, 91, Nahunta – Jimmie Oscar Franks, 91, of Nahunta, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 20th 2026. Born on September 22, 1934, in Wake County, North Carolina, Jimmie was the son of the late Grover and Bertie Penny Franks.
Jimmie proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He received numerous awards for his courage, dedication, and service to his country. Whether tending his garden, fishing his pond, or working the family farm, Jimmie was happiest surrounded by the peace and beauty of God’s creation. Jimmie retired from AG Boone Trucking Co and worked as a site attendant for the County of Wayne Solid Waste Department in Eureka and Fremont.
A faithful follower of Jesus Christ, Jimmie was a longtime member of Rains Crossroads Original Free Will Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Above all else, he was a man of faith who loved the Lord, cherished his family, and lived a life that reflected kindness, humility, and service to others.
Jimmie married the love of his life, Dorothy Fulghum Franks on May 22, 1954. Together they shared 72 years of love and devotion to one another. Jimmie is also survived by his daughter, Renee Godwin Sasser and husband, Brian; his grandsons, Chris Godwin and wife Kelley, and Jimmie Godwin; and great-grandchildren Brysen and Bristol Godwin, all of Nahunta. Jimmie is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Annie Franks Sears, Lola Franks Sears, Lucy Franks Morgan, Leslie Lee Franks, Hubert Penny Franks, Neal Lance Franks, Lucille Franks Godwin, Carl Leon Franks, Clarence Leo Franks, and Nancy Franks Coats; and by his son-in-law, Larry Steven Godwin.
A graveside service will be held at the Radford-Herring Family Cemetery on Radford Rd in Nahunta on June 25, 2026, at 10:30am with Reverend Johnny Sullivan officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the home of Jimmie and Dorothy Franks.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rains Crossroads OFWB Church, 5430 Princeton-Kenly Road, Kenly, NC 27542.
