GOLDSBORO, N.C. — The Dillard/Goldsboro Alumni Association wrapped up another successful homecoming weekend, bringing together generations of alumni, supporters, and community members for four days of events while continuing its longstanding commitment to education through its scholarship program.
According to Dillard/Goldsboro Alumni Association President Jamarius Coley, organizing and executing four consecutive days of activities was no small undertaking. However, he credited a dedicated team of volunteers and committee members for making the weekend a success.
“The task of planning and executing four straight days of events is challenging to say the least,” Coley said. “But this team rose to the occasion and put in the work.”
Coley noted that creating an experience that appeals to a multi-generational audience requires careful planning and flexibility, as alumni from different eras often have varying expectations and interests.
“It isn’t easy trying to anticipate everything that could go left while also trying to create an experience for a multi-generational group where every generation wants something a little different catered to them,” Coley said.
Despite the challenges, Coley praised members of the Homecoming, Scholarship, and Membership Committees for their commitment during months of preparation and throughout the weekend’s activities.
“What people saw this weekend was more than parties and events,” he said. “It was teamwork, commitment, pride and people pouring themselves into preserving and elevating this 71-year legacy.”
While the homecoming festivities brought alumni together to celebrate the history of Dillard High School and Goldsboro High School, the organization’s scholarship mission remained at the forefront.
The National Scholarship Program of Dillard/Goldsboro Alumni Foundation, Inc. announced that more than $122,000 was raised during its annual giving campaigns. Combined with additional resources, the foundation awarded more than $189,000 in scholarships to deserving students during its scholarship ceremony on May 21.
The scholarship initiative continues to fulfill the vision of the late Dr. Hugh Victor Brown, whose commitment to education and opportunity remains a guiding force for the organization.
