May 24, 2026, 83, Goldsboro – Barbara Louise James, 83, peacefully passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2026 at her home. Born in Craven County on January 9, 1943, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas Guion, Sr. and Mary Louise Tripp Guion.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, George James, III; son-in-law, Leslie Cox, Jr.; brother, William Thomas Guion, Jr.; and brothers-in-law, Rudy Furman and Clifford Overton.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Donna L. Cox; son, Kenny James and wife, Michelle; grandchildren, Aricia Cox-Bouzid (Hicham), Leslie Cox, III, Jeremiah James, and Stephen James; sisters, Janice Furman and Goldie Guion; sister-in-law, Shirley Guion; and several nieces and nephews.
Barbara graduated from J.T. Barber High School in her hometown of New Bern. She later continued her education earning a bachelor’s degree from Mount Olive College.
Barbara, along with her husband George, was a longtime member of Seymour Johnson AFB Chapel. Barbara worked and retired from Eastern Wayne High School where she served as a teacher’s assistant and guidance office secretary.
A service to celebrate Barbara’s life will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Chaplain Andrew Wing officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 1, 2026 at Seymour Funeral Home.
