May 21, 2026, 75, Goldsboro – David Christopher “Chris” Long, 75, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday at CarolinaEast Medical Center in New Bern.
Chris was born in Nash County on May 28, 1950, to the late John Howard Long and Elizabeth Batts Long. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Howard Long, Jr.
Chris dedicated many years of his career to Textilease in Goldsboro, where he built lasting relationships and a strong work ethic. After relocating to New Bern, he continued to enjoy staying active and meeting people through his work with NAPA Auto Parts. Outside of work, Chris had a true love for baseball. He excelled in the game and always cherished the opportunity to take the field with his teammates, creating memories through the sport he enjoyed so much.
A graveside service to celebrate Chris’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. in Pikeville Cemetery with Pastor Phyllis Vail and his great-nephew, Edward Breeze, officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery and at other times at the home of Sherry and Lenwood Edwards.
Chris is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Sherry and Lenwood Edwards of Pikeville; his nieces, Kathryn Edwards and Jennifer Breeze and husband, Greg; and his two great-nieces and one great-nephew.
Chris will be remembered for his hardworking nature and the relationships he built throughout his life.
