GOLDSBORO, NC — Authorities are continuing to investigate a serious multi-vehicle crash involving an 18-wheeler that left 11 people injured Saturday afternoon in Goldsboro.
According to the Goldsboro Police Department, the crash occurred on May 9, 2026, at approximately 12:47 p.m. Officers with the department’s A-Shift Patrol Division, along with the Goldsboro Fire Department, Elroy Fire Department, North Carolina State Highway Patrol and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
Investigators said the driver of the 18-wheeler, 46-year-old Alin Bosa of Niles, IL, failed to reduce speed and crashed into six vehicles that were stopped and waiting at a traffic light.
First responders treated a total of 11 patients following the collision. Five people refused transport, while four others were taken to UNC Health Wayne for medical treatment. One patient was airlifted directly from the scene, and another was later airlifted from UNC Health Wayne to ECU Health Medical Center. Both patients were listed in serious condition as of the latest update.
Emergency crews worked for several hours to stabilize and clear the scene, with the roadway reopening around 4:40 p.m.
Bosa has been charged with Failure to Reduce Speed. Police said the crash remains under active investigation, and additional charges could be filed as the investigation continues.
For now, officials are asking motorists to use caution and remain attentive while traveling through busy intersections and high-traffic areas.
