GOLDSBORO, NC – Federal, state, and local leaders toured the City of Goldsboro’s aging Public Safety Complex on Friday as officials continue efforts to secure funding for both immediate repairs and a long-term replacement facility.
U.S. Congressman Greg Murphy and state Rep. John Bell visited the complex alongside City Manager Matt Livingston, Goldsboro Police Chief Michael West, and Goldsboro Fire Chief Ron Stempien.
During the tour, city officials highlighted the current condition of the building and outlined the urgent repairs needed to improve safety and functionality for police officers and firefighters who work inside the facility each day.
While city leaders say immediate improvements are necessary, officials also emphasized that a complete rebuild of the Public Safety Complex will ultimately be required to meet the city’s future needs.
Earlier this week, the Goldsboro City Council approved a $1.05 million contract with Bobbitt Service Solutions to move forward with improvements to the existing complex. The project is being funded through a $1.625 million state grant.
City officials said $375,000 from that same grant will also support stabilization efforts at Union Station.
To address the city’s long-term public safety infrastructure needs, Goldsboro has submitted a Fiscal Year 2027 Community Funding Request to Murphy’s office seeking $1.25 million for the design phase of a new Public Safety Complex.
Over the next two years, city leaders plan to work through the design-build process and determine a location for the future facility.
