April 25, 2026, 73, Goldsboro – Patricia Poythress Wiggins, 73, passed away at Wayne UNC Healthcare on Saturday, April 25, 2026. Born on October 19, 1952, she was the daughter of the late Edward Poythress and Adean Lancaster.
In addition to her parents, Patricia was preceded in death by her brother, Junior Poythress; and son-in-law, Emery Walker.
Patricia is survived by her loving daughters, Lisa Walker, Lynne Myers (Paul Ray), Lori Grady (Keith), and Deanna Bartlett (Steve); grandchildren, Marissa Hobbs (James), Samantha Walker, Kayla Denning (Lee), Darren Myers, Rachel Grady, Josh Grady (Carly), Jacob Grady, Blake Bartlett (Hannah), and Anna Bartlett (Ethan); great-grandchildren, Elli, Jemma, Stephen, Hayleigh, Emma, Ayden, Savannah, Bowdee, Layton, and Lyla; sisters, Carla Lee (DJ), and Tammy Bass; and special friends, Kay Hill, and Diane Daw. Patricia is also survived by several beloved nieces and nephews.
For over 20 years, Patricia faithfully served her community as a rural mail carrier. Through long days and all kinds of weather, she carried not only the mail but a spirit of kindness and reliability that so many came to appreciate. She was a hardworking woman who took great pride in providing for her daughters, always putting their needs above her own.
Patricia found joy in life’s simple blessings. She loved spending time at the beach, listening to the waves roll in, and cherished peaceful moments in the mountains surrounded by God’s creation. Yet above all, her greatest joy was her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the center of her world, and she loved them deeply and unconditionally.
A woman of strong faith, Patricia was a dedicated member of Free Chapel Church, where she faithfully taught Sunday School for many years. She had a gentle way of sharing her love for Jesus, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of those she taught and worshiped alongside.
She will be remembered for her unwavering love, her tireless work ethic, and the warmth she brought into the lives of all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 5th at Free Chapel Church at 6 p.m., with her grandson, Reverend Darren Myers, presiding. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
