April 19, 2026, 83, Goldsboro – Charles Johnson, 83, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at UNC Wayne Health in Goldsboro.
Charles was born in Wayne County on December 2, 1942, to the late Orby and Clara Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Betty Ruth Newsome Johnson.
Charles retired from ACME in Fremont, where he worked as an equipment mechanic. He was known for his strong work ethic and his ability to fix just about anything. For many years, he earned the nickname “the lawnmower man,” as he was often sought out for his skill in repairing lawnmowers.
As his health allowed, Charles attended Hood Swamp Friends Church.
A graveside service to celebrate Charles’ life will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park, with Rev. Michael Parks officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
Charles is survived by his sons, Dusty Johnson and wife, Michelle, and Andy Johnson; his grandchildren, Courtney Mozingo and husband, Matt, and Trevor Johnson and wife, Amanda; his great-grandchildren, Mason Mozingo, Eris Johnson, Mia Mozingo, Wile Johnson, and Francine Johnson; and his brother, Tony Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
