April 19, 2026, 65, Goldsboro – Betty Jean Howell, 65, passed away suddenly on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at her home.
Betty was born in Wayne County on September 8, 1960, to the late William Daniel Howell and Eula Mae Hare Howell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Billy Ray Howell.
A devoted and caring individual, Betty retired from Wayne County Public Schools where she faithfully served as a teacher’s assistant, touching the lives of countless students and staff with her kindness and dedication. Outside of the classroom, she was well known for her exceptional cooking talents. She shared that gift with her community through her work in the deli at Carlie C’s, as well as at Aaron’s Restaurant and Wilber’s Barbeque, where her meals brought comfort and joy to many.
Betty will be remembered most for her loving heart, her strong work ethic, and the way she cared for those around her. Her family will cherish the many memories made through shared meals, laughter, and time spent together.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her son, Edgar Uriah Britt, Jr. and wife, Rebecca; her daughter, Sheena LeAnne Britt; her sisters, Peggy Jones and Maggie Talton; her beloved grandchildren, Mackinzie Mendoza, Anna Mendoza, Zachary Britt, Naudia Knox, Layla Sanderson, and Dasia Sanderson; and her great-grandson, Jaxon Britt.
The family will remember Betty privately at a later date.
