April 15, 2023, 92, Goldsboro – Mary Glenn Randall Pittman, 92, passed peacefully into eternal life on April 15, 2023, after a short illness. She is predeceased by her husband, Paul Hubert Pittman, Jr. and her son, Rev. Paul Hubert Pittman, III.
Mary Glenn was born in Raleigh, N.C. and grew up in Wake County. She was a 1951 graduate of Millbrook High School and earned a B.A. in Education from Meredith College in 1955. After graduation, she moved to Goldsboro, N.C. to teach second grade at Edgewood School and later taught kindergarten in the Protestant School. She was a gifted teacher of young children and is remembered by her former students for her kindness and encouragement.
Mary Glenn was a member of First Presbyterian Church for more than five decades and served faithfully in many teaching and committee roles there through the years. She especially enjoyed being part of any activity the Presbyterian Women had underway and received an Honorary Life Membership from that organization in 2006. Her Christian faith was the focus of her life, and she was a true and honorable steward of the talent God gave her.
She found much joy in her family and was a devoted sister, wife, mother, and grandparent. She is the source of many happy memories for those she leaves behind.
Mary Glenn is survived by her sister Katherine Randall Peck and her brother Richard David Randall. She is also survived by her children Dr. Mary Katherine Compton and husband the Rev. Dr. David O. Compton, Jr., Rebekah Pittman Leonard and husband William Andrew Leonard, daughter-in-law Laura Newsome Pittman, her grandchildren Sarah Elspeth Compton and husband Colin Sinclair Collis, Charles Kiser Leonard, Benjamin Davis Leonard, Samuel Luis Pittman, Annie Dupre Pittman, and two great-grandchildren, Matilda Katherine Collis and Oliver Richard Collis.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at First Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
