April 15, 2026, 79, Goldsboro – Dan Lacy Rhodes, 79, passed away in Durham at Select Specialty Hospital on Wednesday, April 15, 2026. Born in Wayne County on June 26, 1946, he was the son of the late Joseph Rhodes and Thelma Carmack Rhodes.
In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his brothers, Wayne Rhodes, and Edsel Rhodes and wife, Nancy; grandson, Brandon Rhodes; and daughter-in-law, Judy Rhodes.
Dan is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Joyce Wiggins Rhodes; sons, Dan Tracy Rhodes and wife, Amelia, Billy Eugene Rhodes, and Dwayne Irvin Rhodes; grandchildren, Samantha Brock and husband, Brandon, Julie Lambeth and husband, Bryton, Dallas Rhodes and Rebecca, Samantha Moncourtois and husband, Ross, Christopher Rhodes, Brad Rhodes; great-grandchildren, Cali, Blair, Issac, Caleb, Mason, Miley, Faithlynn, June, and Avery, whom he had a special bond an friendship beyond messure; siblings, Edna Wise, Gloria White and husband, Larry, Abigail Pollock and husband, Dennis, Debbie Stafford, Daphne Jones and husband, Kenneth, Melba Anderson, Vickie Osoria, Harold Rhodes and wife, Bobbie, and Carolyn Rhodes. Dan is also survived by many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
A proud and faithful veteran, Dan honorably served in the United States Army for 21 years before retiring. His time in the military reflected his deep sense of duty, discipline, and commitment to his country.
Following his military service, Dan continued his strong work ethic by owning and operating Dan Rhodes Trucking. Through his business, he built lasting relationships and earned the respect of those he worked with. After years of hard work, he eventually stepped into a well-earned retirement.
In his quieter moments, Dan found joy in the simple things. He loved to tinker, often spending hours working on old lawn mowers and spending time in his yard.
A service to celebrate Dan’s life will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at 1 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis Pollock presiding. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. Interment services will full military honors will be held at 2 p.m. at the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
