GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Community members are invited to wear purple and gather Friday morning in recognition of Month of the Military Child, honoring the resilience and sacrifices of more than 1.6 million military-connected children worldwide.
Organizers are encouraging residents to come together at 9:30 a.m. Friday in front of Goldsboro City Hall to show support for military families and children throughout the community.
April is recognized nationwide as the Month of the Military Child, and the 2026 theme, “Legacy of Resilience: 40 Years of Nourishing Our Military Children’s Future,” highlights the strength and adaptability of children growing up in military families.
The event also coincides with “Purple Up! Day,” a nationwide initiative encouraging communities to wear purple in honor of military-connected children. The color purple symbolizes all branches of the military, combining the colors of each service branch into one unified show of support.
Goldsboro is home to Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, where many military families live and work, making the recognition especially meaningful for the local community.
Organizers say the gathering is intended to celebrate the strength, resilience, and sacrifices military children make, including frequent relocations, parental deployments, and adapting to new schools and communities.
Community members, local leaders, schools, and businesses are encouraged to wear purple Friday and attend the event to stand in solidarity with military children and families.
