RALEIGH, NC — A Pink Hill man is celebrating a life-changing surprise after a phone call revealed he had won $100,000 in a North Carolina Education Lottery second-chance drawing.
When Delmar Scott answered the call on Thursday, he said the shock of the news hit him immediately.
“Well my hair is standing up on my head right now,” Scott said.
Scott, a grandfather of five, won his prize in the third of four $8 Million Money Maker Second Chance drawings. The drawing included more than 1.5 million total entries statewide.
“I was just giddy,” he said.
Scott traveled to lottery headquarters on Friday to claim his winnings. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $72,010.
“We are really excited about it,” Scott said.
He said he plans to share part of his winnings with his three children.
Second-chance drawings allow players who enter eligible non-winning lottery tickets to be entered into separate prize drawings, offering additional opportunities to win beyond traditional ticket results.
