April 4, 2026, 94, Goldsboro – Mary Catherine Granahan Bannon, 94, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center, surrounded by the love and prayers of her family.
Born on August 15, 1931, in Pittston, Pennsylvania, Mary was the daughter of the late John and Mary Granahan. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 49 years, Joseph Francis Bannon; her cherished granddaughter, Amy Peart; and her brothers, Jack Granahan, Paul Granahan, and Charlie Granahan.
Mary lived a life rooted deeply in faith, love, and service. A devout Catholic, she was a faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church, where her quiet devotion and steadfast belief in God guided her daily life. Her faith was not only something she professed, but something she lived—through kindness, compassion, and a servant’s heart.
For more than 20 years, Mary volunteered at Wayne Memorial Hospital, where she ministered to patients and families with a gentle presence and caring spirit, offering comfort to those in need. Her service was a true reflection of Christ’s love in action.
Above all, Mary was devoted to her family. As a loving wife, mother, nana, and granny, she created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unconditional love. Her daughters were her greatest joy, and she took pride in making every moment with her family special. Her legacy of love, faith, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughters, Maureen Peart and husband, Jeff; Jacqui Whitmire and husband, Tim; Joanne Honig and husband, Randall; and Sharon Bannon; her grandchildren, Jennifer Corkern and husband, Matt; Daniel Whitmire and wife, Gail; Bradley Whitmire and wife, Rebecca; and Emily Theel and husband, Lucas; her great-grandchildren, Lauren Picone, Tyler Plante, Catie Corkern, Allison Corkern, Kylie Plante, John Corkern, Noah Carlyle, Landon Theel, Harper Theel, and Tessa Whitmire; and her great-great-grandchildren, Oliver Picone, Naomi Ferry-Corkern, and Marina Picone.
