March 24, 2026, 90, Goldsboro – Eva Chase Hehl, 90, of Goldsboro went to meet her Lord and Savior Tuesday morning, March 24, 2026 at her home.
Funeral service will be held Friday, March 27, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro. Interment will follow at Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Goldsboro. A time of visitation will be held prior to the service from noon until 12:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hehl, one of ten children, was born in Wayne County on April 25, 1935 to the late William Herman and Mary Angelina Taylor Chase. She loved working in her flower beds and other gardening activities. In younger years, she enjoyed camping at Kerr Lake with her family and other campers. Eva was always ready and willing to endeavor in any type of farm work whether it involved working in the garden, canning vegetables or tending farm crops such as tobacco and corn. She enjoyed remodeling her farm home with new additions and needed modern conveniences. She was a member of United in Christ Church of Goldsboro. When previously residing in the Watkins Community area, she was also a Sunday school teacher at the South Henderson Church of God.
She leaves to cherish her memories her two daughters, Sandra Cheryl Ellington and husband, Bill of Manson and Deborah Whitley and husband, Ben of Goldsboro; two sons, Tommy Colie and wife, Connie of Hookerton and Timothy Colie and wife, Susan of Oxford. She also has one brother, Herman Delton Chase and wife, Ruth of Pikeville; two sisters, Barbara Forehand and husband, Mickey of Goldsboro and Virginia Byrd of Fremont; three sisters-in-law, Sandra Chase of Fremont, Ruth Ann Chase of Delaware and Paulette Chase of Pikeville; nine grandchildren, Heather and Jamie Peele, Holly Fulcher, Mary and Eddie Minton, Stephanie and Marvin Ewy, Kelly and Thomas Greene, Brian Colie and Jennifer, Jennifer Adcock and partner, Brett Armstrong, Gabriel and Angela Ellington and Tracy and Adam Roberts and fifteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, William “Bill” Dwight Hehl, Russell Jenner and Tom Colie; five brothers, Freeman Chase, Billy Paul Chase, James Chase, Johnny Chase and Bobby Keith Chase; one sister, Lela Mae Grimes; two brothers-in-law, Bob Byrd and David Grimes; two sisters-in-law, Audrey Chase and LaVonne Chase and one grandson, Tony Coley.
