March 26, 2026, 83, Mount Olive – In the wee hours of Thursday morning, March 26, 2026, while surrounded by her girls, Mrs. Dreama Sue Painter Price went to be with the Lord. She was 83.
Mrs. Price, born July 13, 1942, in Dothan, West Virginia, graduated in 1960 from Kingston High School in West Virginia.
As a young lady working in Washington, DC, she caught the eye of Robert Price, who was also working in that area. They married and returned to North Carolina, his home state, and to his home territory, Wayne County. Always one who sought to help others, she was a volunteer with Mount Olive Rescue Squad for many years. In doing so, this cultivated a yearning to become a registered nurse. So after having been employed by the Moses King family as manager of the Mount Olive Piggly Wiggly deli-bakery, at the age of 50, she returned to school to pursue her true calling in life. Once she became a nurse, she gained employment in 1996 at Wayne Memorial Hospital as a nurse in its oncology unit, tenderly loving and caring for patients until she retired in 2007.
Mrs. Price was a member of the Mount Olive First Pentecostal Holiness Church, and from her walk with God, she developed a very strong faith in her Christian life.
Those who survive Mrs. Price include her daughters and a son-in-law, Donna P. and Sammy Fields of Faison, and Karen Price of Mount Olive; a granddaughter, Hannah F. Smith of Faison; three great-grandchildren, Adah Grace Fields, Jensen Fields Smith, and Rhett Dewitt Smith; a sister, Marie Baker of Maryland; and a brother, Rudy Painter of West Virginia. Also surviving is a special friend, Rajean Johnson; special dear friends, Joyce Hill, Barbara, and Donald Kelley; and Marley, the pet dog belonging to Karen, who became Mrs. Sue’s buddy and personal protector.
Sadly, those who preceded her in death include her husband, Robert G. Price; a grandson, Sammy Travis Fields; and her parents, Earl Painter and Roxie Webb Painter.
A graveside funeral service will be Saturday, March 28, at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park. Officiating will be Pastor Jeffrey Dail. A time to greet the family will be at the cemetery after the service. Friends and relatives may also call at the residence.
A special and honorable thank you is extended to the Gentiva Hospice staff, especially Megan Gonzales and Jordan McCullen for their passionate, love and care provided to Mrs. Price and her family.
