March 22, 2026, 76, Kenly – Hilda Hawley White, 76, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 2, 1950, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Hawley and Katie Thornton Hawley.
In addition to her parents, Hilda was preceded in death by her brothers, Shelton Hawley and Jeff Hawley.
Hilda is survived by her loving husband, Billy White; children, John Williamson, III (Amy), Joy Fulghum (Cale), and Shane White (Jennifer); grandchildren, Phoebe Williamson, Chloe Williamson, Erin Fulghum, and Tara Fulghum; and siblings, Doris Wilson (Woody), Jim Hawley (Nancy), Anne McLean (Duncan), and Jimmy Hawley (Rebecca). Hilda is also survived by many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
Hilda lived a life that was defined by her unwavering dedication to education, her deep love for family, and her gift for forming lasting connections with those around her. A former principal, she devoted her career to shaping young minds and supporting the teachers who stood alongside her. Even after her retirement, former teachers and colleagues continued to speak of her with admiration, often sharing stories of the positive impact she had on their lives.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Hilda found her greatest joy in her family. She cherished every opportunity to travel with her loved ones, creating memories that would be treasured for generations. Her granddaughters held a particularly special place in her heart, and she delighted in spending time with them, whether on family trips or in quiet, everyday moments.
Hilda also had a creative spirit and a love for sewing. Through her skill and care, she crafted pieces that reflected her warmth and attention to detail, often sharing her creations with those she loved.
One of her favorite places was her vacation home in North Myrtle Beach, where she built a close-knit circle of friends. She treasured her time there, enjoying laughter, companionship, and the simple pleasures of being near the ocean with people who meant so much to her.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 26, 2026 from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Kenly Funeral Service. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Wilson with Pastor Ray Wells presiding.
