GOLDSBORO, N.C. — The Goldsboro Police Department is continuing to investigate a shooting that left a 61-year-old man dead earlier this year in the 900 block of West Oak Street.
According to police, officers first responded at approximately 4:54 a.m. on Jan. 27, 2026, after receiving a ShotSpotter alert indicating gunfire in the 900 block of W. Oak Street. Officers canvassed the area but did not locate any victims at that time.
Later that morning, at approximately 10:26 a.m., officers were called back to the area after receiving a report of an unresponsive person inside an apartment in the same block.
Emergency medical personnel arrived and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Investigators later determined the victim, Ronald Eugene Edwards, 61, of Goldsboro, appeared to have suffered a single gunshot wound.
The Goldsboro Police Department Criminal Investigation Division and Crime Scene Unit responded to process the scene and begin the investigation. Authorities say the case remains an active investigation.
Police are now asking for the public’s help as detectives work to gather additional information.
Investigators are urging anyone who may have been in the area during the early morning hours of Jan. 27 — or anyone who may have information related to the case — to come forward. Officials say even minor details could be important.
Police are also asking residents or drivers who may have cell phone, dash camera, or surveillance video from the area around the time of the incident to share that footage with investigators.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Goldsboro Police Department or Wayne County Crime Stoppers at 919-735-2255. Tips can also be submitted online at p3tips.com. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
