GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A man wanted in connection with a 1995 homicide in California was taken into custody Thursday after a ShotSpotter alert led officers to a home in Goldsboro.
According to the Goldsboro Police Department, officers responded on March 6, 2026, to 205 N. Virginia St. after a ShotSpotter alert detected a gunshot and mapped the location to the rear of the residence.
When officers arrived, they encountered a suspect standing behind the home holding a handgun. Police said the man ignored commands from officers and retreated inside the residence while still armed.
Officers quickly established a perimeter around the home and contained the situation. After approximately 45 minutes, the suspect exited the residence and surrendered to officers without further incident. The firearm was recovered at the scene.
The suspect was identified as Jose Manuel Cano Jasso, 52.
Jasso was initially charged with discharging a firearm within city limits and resist, delay, and obstruct, and was issued a $5,000 secured bond for those charges.
During the investigation, officers discovered Jasso was also a fugitive from justice out of California in connection with a homicide that occurred in 1995. Authorities said he is currently being held without bond on the fugitive warrant.
