February 27, 2026, 88, Grantham – Charles Brantley Harrell, age 88, of Grantham, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of February 27, 2026, at Johnston UNC Health in Smithfield, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Wayne County on June 4, 1937, he was the son of the late Gerthia and Thelma Westbrook Harrell. In addition to his parents, Charles was proceeded in death by a son, Charles Kent Harrell, siblings, William F. (Shorty) Harrell, Doris Darden, Norwood M. (Nub) Harrell. Charles and Sarah were married June 8, 1957 in South Carolina
Charles was a longtime self-employed plumber, serving the Grantham community with dedication and skill. In addition to plumbing, he had a passion for gardening, particularly known for his greenhouse tomatoes. He loved sharing the bounty of his garden with friends and neighbors.
For 17 years, Charles and Sarah operated a produce stand at the North Carolina State Farmers Market in Raleigh, where he enjoyed connecting with customers and the community. He cherished fishing and spending time with family and friends, often delighting everyone with a good story or joke to bring a smile to their faces.
A member of Jordans Chapel Baptist Church, Charles was a humble man, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years Sarah Sutton Harrell; his daughter, Kim Harrell; grandson Todd Harrell and wife Traci; great-granddaughters Kaitlin Brock, Anna Dove Harrell, as well as Lauren Kennedy; great-grandson Jayce Brock; his sister Linda Gantt, several nieces and nephews survive. He is also survived by his loyal and devoted friends.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 11 AM at Jordans Chapel Baptist Church, with Rev. Frank Sandy and Mr. Chris Britt officiating. Family and friends are invited to visit on the evening of March 4 from 6 PM to 8 PM at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro, and other times at the home of Todd and Traci Harrell. 2813 Selah Church Road Four Oaks.
