March 3, 2026, 84, Goldsboro – Mary Ann Howell Aycock, 84, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in Wayne County on January 16, 1942, Mary Ann was the daughter of the late Doby and Lois Howell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Elwood Howell and Wilton Howell.
A proud graduate of Nahunta High School’s Class of 1960, Mary Ann distinguished herself both academically and athletically. During her junior year, she excelled in basketball and earned the honor of being the highest scorer at the State High School Championship — a remarkable achievement that reflected her determination, talent, and competitive spirit.
Mary Ann retired from the United States Postal Service after many faithful years as a rural route mail carrier. Along her route, she formed lasting friendships and became a familiar and welcomed presence to the families she served. Her kindness and warm smile brightened many days.
Her faith was the foundation of her life. A devoted member of Union Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church, Mary Ann faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher, was active in the Ladies Auxiliary, and even enjoyed fellowship and fun as a member of the church’s ladies softball team. Her church family was deeply important to her, and she gave of herself generously in service to others.
Mary Ann cherished time spent at her home on the Pamlico River, where fishing brought her great joy. She delighted in the anticipation of a tug on the line and the excitement of reeling in the day’s best catch. Those quiet moments by the water were among her happiest.
Above all, Mary Ann treasured her family. Whether near or far, time spent together was her greatest blessing. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, a loving mama, and a proud nanny. Her gentle strength, selfless heart, and unwavering love leave a legacy that will continue to guide and comfort those who knew her.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Charles Aycock; daughter, Connie Aycock Johnson and husband, Jimmy; sons, Russell Charles Aycock and wife, Paula, and Bradley Simon Aycock and wife, Kristi; grandchildren, Heather Johnson Sherrod and husband, Chris; Paige Johnson Cadman and husband, Griffin; Rusty Aycock and wife, Amber; Sarah Caron and husband, Brett; Olivia Medlin and husband, Luke; Hannah Aycock; and Ethan Aycock; and great-grandchildren, Scarlett, Noah, Henry, and Della. She is also survived by her sister, Daylon Pridgen.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 7, 2026, from 5:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service to celebrate Mary Ann’s life at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. John Massengill officiating.
Flowers are welcome, or memorials may be made in her memory to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC 27534, or to Union Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church, 1283 Union Grove Church Road, Fremont, NC 27830.
