March 3, 2026, 79, Goldsboro – Leon Teachey, Jr., 79, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Leon was born in Wayne County on August 18, 1946, to the late Leon and Naomi Teachey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Manfred Teachey, Melvin Teachey, and James Teachey; and his sisters, Letha Lewis, Mary Smith, and Fennetti Rouse.
Leon faithfully served his country in the North Carolina Army National Guard, where he was honored as the recipient of the Sharpshooter Badge. He later dedicated many years of hard work to Helena Agri-Enterprises in Pikeville, from which he retired.
A devoted man of faith, Leon worshiped at United In Christ Church in Goldsboro. He found great joy in the outdoors and was an avid sportsman who treasured every opportunity to go fishing and hunting. Whether in the woods or by the water, he appreciated the simple blessings of nature and the time spent with those he loved.
Above all, Leon was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Gail Teachey; his daughter, Dawn Hales and husband, Scott; and his cherished grandchildren, Jay Shackleford and Abbie Shackleford. His family was the center of his life, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 8, 2026, from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home. A service to celebrate his life will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Ira Williford officiating. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont.
