February 23, 2026, 72, Smithfield – David Lee Hayes, 72, of Smithfield passed away at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh on Monday, February 23, 2026. He was born in Johnston County on April 22, 1953 to the late Lloyd Hayes and Edna Earl Strickland Wallace. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Clifton Hayes and Ravon Hayes; sisters, Lucille Messer, Deborah Heath, Teresa Shallington and an infant sister, Cathy Hayes.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Gail Bradley Hayes; son, Thomas Peedin (Marie) of Goldsboro; daughter, Crystal Peedin of Pine Level; brother, Joe Hayes of Virginia; sisters, Sylvia Wall (Donnie) of Benson and Linda Stephenson of Smithfield; 4 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Baker’s Chapel Church with the Reverend Gene Dewitt officiating.
