February 12, 2026, 90, Goldsboro – Sherwood Keith Tyndall, 90, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center, surrounded by his loving family.
Sherwood was born in Wayne County, North Carolina, on January 28, 1936, to the late John Henry “Jack” Tyndall and Flossie Minshew Tyndall. He was a proud graduate of Pikeville High School and maintained many lifelong friendships with members of the Class of 1954.
Self-employed for most of his life, Sherwood owned several NAPA hardware stores in Raleigh before later founding Tyndall Trucking in Goldsboro. His work as a truck driver took him across the country, and he embraced life on the open road with enthusiasm. Always ready for an adventure, Sherwood’s love of travel continued into retirement, when he purchased a motorhome and explored the beauty of the United States. He especially treasured trips to the Grand Canyon, Texas, and Badlands, South Dakota.
Sherwood was a man of faith and was a longtime member of Madison Avenue Baptist Church. In later years, he was a devoted member of Stoney Creek Baptist Church.
Above all, Sherwood was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Sherwood was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, June Garris Tyndall; his son-in-law, Philip Craig Powell; his sister, Jewell Tyndall Howell; and his brother, Carlton Ray Tyndall.
He is survived by his wife of eight years, Lou Ella Tyndall; his daughters, Ramona Tyndall Holdstock and her husband, David, of Raleigh, and Sheryl Tyndall Powell of Youngsville; his grandchildren, Natalie Holdstock, Amelia Holdstock, Tosh Holdstock, Beatrice Holdstock, Faith Powell, and Olivia Powell; and his great-granddaughter, Elisa Santiago-Powell. He is also survived by his sister, Peggy Tyndall Kennedy of The Woodlands, Texas. Sherwood is also survived by his bonus children, Sherry Perry and husband, Mark, Lori Garcia and husband, Guadalupe, and Clark Daw and wife, Felicia; and his bonus grandchildren, Courtney Bradford, Thomas Towson, and Natalia Garcia.
